DIRECTV FAQ’s
I live in apartment or condo. Can I get a DIRECTV System?
Start by asking your landlord, property manager or
homeowners' association if you may install a DIRECTV®
System on your rooftop or other building location.
If you're not authorized to mount the dish on the roof or
the side of the building, try your patio or balcony. Just
make sure you have a clear view of the Southern sky.
Your system installation may require structural
modifications that may be limited or restricted by the terms
of your lease, rental agreement or covenants, conditions and
restrictions (CC&Rs). To avoid delays in your installation,
we ask that you obtain written or verbal permission from
your landlord, homeowners' association or property manager
(or, alternatively, review your lease/rental agreement/HOA
CC&Rs to confirm permission is not required) prior to
scheduling your installation. To help you in your request,
please as us about the installation permission form.
The Federal Communications Commission (FCC) has a rule that
generally forbids local governments and homeowners'
associations from enforcing unreasonable restrictions
regarding the installation of satellite dishes one meter or
smaller. For more information, visit the FCC Website.
Will I need to pay for expensive equipment?
No, you can get FREE standard installation of the equipment
you need for a standard DIRECTV System in up to four rooms
of your home. All we ask is that you subscribe to 12 months
of any CHOICE programming package. Just order by calling
1-800-201-0074 or select the Order Now button on the site,
fill in the information and a qualified representative will
call you back.
Why lease the DIRECTV equipment?
As the technology in our receivers becomes more advanced,
leasing allows us to continue to provide the latest
equipment to you — at minimal cost. Leasing also permits
affordable upgrades and free replacement receivers.
Is the monthly lease fee different for different equipment?
The monthly lease fee is $4.99 per receiver, though we waive
this fee on your first receiver. This low monthly fee is the
same for standard receivers, DVRs, HD receivers and HD DVRs.
If I move, can I take the receiving equipment with me?
Of course! Call us at 1-800-207-0074 and we will help you
with the DIRECTV Movers Connection. All you have to do is
bring your receiving equipment to your new residence and
leave the dish behind at your old residence.
If you're moving to Alaska or Hawaii, you may need new
receiving equipment. If you're moving outside the United
States, unfortunately we won't be able to serve you — we are
legally prohibited from offering services outside the United
States.
Sports blackouts and your ability to receive local channels
or broadcast network services may be affected by your new
address.
Can I get DIRECTV programming on more than one television
set in my house?
Using separate DIRECTV Receivers for each of the TVs in your
home gives you the flexibility of watching different
programs on different television sets. There is a
$4.99/month additional fee for your secondary and each
additional receiver.
If I have more than one receiver do I have to pay a full
monthly subscription for each receiver?
No. DIRECTV allows you to connect more than one television
in a single household to our services. The programming you
request for the primary access card in your receiver is
copied for all of the access cards in the other receivers
and you are authorized to receive this same level of
programming on these televisions.
When you receive programming on additional receivers, we
verify that all of your receivers are continuously connected
to the same land-based phone line. If we find that one of
the receivers is not connected to the phone line, we will
discontinue service to that receiver and you will need to
call us to re-establish that service.
With so many channels, how will I sort through them all?
The DIRECTV receiving equipment not only brings you lots of
channels, it helps you manage your options. Your On Screen
program guide helps you quickly find what you're looking
for. And you can set up favorite channels lists to make
surfing even easier.
Also, our channel neighborhoods make it easy to find the

Dish Network
FAQ’s
Is it possible to watch separate programming on two
televisions with one DISH Network receiver?
Yes, it is possible with our newest receivers: the DISH 322,
the DISH Player-DVR 522, the DISH Player-DVR 625 & the DISH
Player-DVR 942. The dual-tuner DISH Player-DVR’s reflects
some of DISH Network’s best technology, allowing you to
watch programming on two televisions and adding DVR
functionality – so you can record, pause and replay live TV.
The DISH Player 942 offers DVR and HD capabilities. With its
ability to connect two or more TV’s, you can enjoy HD and SD
programming in two separate rooms.
Do any of your
receivers support picture-in-picture (PIP)?
Our DISH Player - DVR 522, 625, 721, 921 and 942 supports
PIP. Simply press the PIP button. If the 522, 625 and 942 do
not respond, you’ll need to change them to Single Mode.
In order to use your TV’s PIP you would need to connect one
of our receiver’s outputs to your TV’s PIP input, and the
other PIP input with your off-air antenna signal, VCR or
second receiver.
What is the benefit of HDTV over regular satellite TV?
Greater picture detail with higher resolutions, truer color,
clearer reception, a theater-like widescreen picture and
multi-channel Dolby Digital surround sound.
What is DVI and
how is it better?
DVI (Digital Visual Interface) is a digital video connection
between HD receivers and supported HDTVs. This type of
connection provides a high-quality image and no quality loss
due to the fact that all signals are purely digital. DVI
does not include audio.
What additional equipment do I need to
receive off-air HDTV programming?
A DISH Network HD receiver and an off-air antenna are needed
to receive digital off-air signals if available.
HughesNet FAQ’s
Q:
What is HughesNet?
A: HughesNet® is the
high-speed Internet solution that’s available to everyone in
the contiguous US with a clear view of the southern sky.
HughesNet uses satellite technology, not your phone line, to
give you a super-fast, always-on Internet connection.
HughesNet gets you online instantly, lets you surf and open
pages faster and download files in a fraction of the time it
takes on a dial-up modem.
Q: How fast are
HughesNet services for your home?
A: HughesNet offers more choices to
meet your broadband needs. The Home plan offers download
speeds up to 1.0 Mbps, while our fastest plan, ElitePlus,
offers download speeds up to 3.0 Mbps.
Q: Is HughesNet
compatible with my Mac?
A: Yes, HughesNet® is compatible with
Mac OS 10.1 or higher. 10/100 Ethernet connectivity is also
required.
Q: Can I use
HughesNet to run a small network?
A: Yes, you can connect multiple home
computers and laptops to a single HughesNet® Internet
connection. Home networking equipment may be required and is
not included with your HughesNet system. For network setup,
support, and configuration, contact your network hardware
manufacturer and/or operating system software developer
(HUGHES is not responsible for home network configuration or
management).
Please understand that all computers on
this network will be sharing a single connection.
Simultaneous use of high-bandwidth applications by multiple
users may result in degradation of speed and is subject to
the HughesNet Fair Access Policy.
Q: Can the HughesNet-certified
installer set up my home network?
A: If you’d like, you can inquire if
this option is available through your installer when you set
your installation appointment. However, home networks are
not included or supported by HUGHES technical support.
Multiple simultaneous users may degrade service.
Uninterrupted service and stated speeds not guaranteed
Q: What is
transmission latency?
A: Latency refers to the amount of time
it takes a packet of data to travel across a network. With
satellite service, that data must travel up to the satellite
and back (about 45,000 miles). This round trip adds about a
half-second delay to the total time your computer takes to
communicate with a Website or host server. Therefore,
time-sensitive applications that require
fractions-of-a-second user inputs (such as multi-player
“twitch” games or real-time equities trading) are not
recommended with HughesNet®.
Q: Can I run a VPN
over HughesNet?
A: HughesNet® Home Service plan is not
compatible with VPNs.You may use a VPN with HughesNet, but
you will likely experience reduced speeds as much as 50–75%.
You can restore your connection to full speed by simply
disabling your VPN client when your session is over.
Note: HughesNet
Technical Support does not provide help with configuring or
troubleshooting problems associated with VPN clients.
Q. Do you have a
money-back guarantee?
Yes, HUGHES offers a 30-Day
Satisfaction Guarantee. We want you to be happy with your
HughesNet® service. If you are not completely
satisfied, just cancel your service within 30 days of
activation, and return your HughesNet modem and radio
(transmitter) to receive a refund of $200. Installation
charges and other fees are not refundable. The HughesNet
modem and radio must be returned to Hughes, in good
condition, within 60 days of your service activation in
order to receive the equipment refund. Hughes will provide
instructions on how to de-install and return your equipment.
You are not required to return, and Hughes is not obligated
to de-install or pay for the de-installation of the antenna,
mount or any cables.
